Laurie McGuire-Gates joins the firm as Of Counsel, bringing over fourteen years of litigation and investigative experience. After graduating from Boston University School of Law with a concentration in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution, she became an Assistant District Attorney for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office – widely regarded as the premier state prosecutor’s office in the country. As a prosecutor, she was selected to join the Special Victims Division where she investigated and tried some of the most serious felony cases. Laurie was also selected to join the Financial Frauds Bureau where she gained extensive experience investigating financial complaints made on behalf of small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and local governments. In addition to her extensive trial experience, she has successfully argued before appellate courts and federal agencies.

After leaving the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, she was an Assistant Chief Counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security where she was the lead attorney in immigration cases involving national security issues, human rights violations, and applications for asylum. Through thousands of interviews, involving a wide-range of sensitive topics, Laurie has garnered the understanding of how to successfully manage and navigate highly confidential situations.

Using her extensive investigative and litigation background, Laurie now focuses her work on all areas of employment law including internal investigations, workplace counseling, discrimination and retaliation and wage and hour disputes.  In addition to her litigation experience, Laurie is an active member of her community where she serves on a township committee as well as a development committee for a local education foundation.
